VW’s ever-popular small-sized SUV has had a facelift, and Mat’s about to find out what’s changed and whether it can compete with competitors like the Ford Puma and Kia Sportage.
When it comes to the design, there are several changes over the previous edition. We’ve got our hands on the R-Line edition, which has a few sportier elements than the entry-level car. Up front, there’s a full-length light bar, and it also comes with an aggressive lower bumper and matrix LED headlights. Along the side this edition comes with black window surrounds, contrasting door mirrors and chrome roof bars. At the back, there’s another full-length light bar and (thankfully!) no fake exhausts to be found anywhere!
There are several updates on the inside too. This R-Line edition comes with ambient lights built into the dash on the passenger side, and this car is also specced with an upgraded infotainment screen! It’s a super clear display, although unfortunately, it can be a bit laggy at times. The climate controls are also managed through the screen as well. There’s a large digital driver's display, and the gear selector has moved to a stalk on the steering wheel.
There are a couple of engine options available. The entry-level is a 1.5-litre turbo petrol that can deliver 110hp, while another 1.5-litre turbo petrol can put down 150hp. There’s also a 2.0-litre version with 204hp which will come with all-wheel drive. Then for the first time ever, there’ll be two different self-charging hybrids available! And finally, there’ll be an R version with a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine making 333hp!
Prices are TBC but it’s likely the new T-Roc is going to cost from £32,000 which is over £2,000 more that the outgoing model, so is it worth the upgrade? You’ll need to stick with Mat to see for yourself!
