Sebelum meninggal, Zhie Jie sempat pingsan di lapangan dan dilarikan ke rumah sakit.
Kabar duka tersebut disampaikan oleh Persatuan Bulu Tangkis Seluruh Indonesia (PBSI) pada Senin (1/7/2024) dini hari WIB.
PBSI mengatakan, Zhie Jie mendadak pingsan saat babak penyisihan melawan Jepang pada Minggu (30/6/2024) malam.
Tim medis kemudian segera melakukan pertolongan sebelum akhirnya merujuk Zhie Jie ke rumah sakit.
Namun, pebulu tangkis putra China tersebut tak tertolong dan dinyatakan meninggal pukul 23.20 WIB.
"Pingsan di lapangan saat pertandingan malam hari, lalu dilarikan ke rumah sakit dan meninggal dunia pada pukul 23.20 waktu setempat kemarin," kata PBSI, dikutip dari Tribunnews.com, Senin (1/7/2024).
Atas kejadian ini, PBSI, Badminton Asia, dan pihak panitia penyelenggara menyampaikan bela sungkawa.
PBSI menyebut, dunia bulu tangkis telah kehilangan salah satu pemain berbakat.
Sebagai informasi, Zhie Jie merupakan anggota dari skuad beregu China pada ajang Badminton Asia Junior Championships 2024.
Pertandingan digelar di GOR Amongrogo Yogyakarta pada 28 Juni hingga 2 Juli.
Sejauh ini skuad beregu China telah melangkah ke perempat final dan dijadwalkan menghadapi Taiwan pada Senin (1/7/2024).
