Auf der Hochlandhütte bei Mittenwald ist die erste Trockentrenntoilette auf einer bayerischen Alpenvereinshütte in Betrieb gegangen. Das ist eine Toilette ohne Wasserspülung, sie trennt Flüssiges und Festes. Der Urin läuft ab, feste Bestandteile werden gesammelt und danach kompostiert. Dadurch fließen nicht mehr mehrere Liter kostbares Wasser bei jeder Spülung Abfluss.Die Betreiber der Hochlandhüttte, der DAV, will so den Wasserverbrauch um rund 75 Prozent senken. Das ist wichtig, weil die die Quelle in letzter Zeit im Sommer immer wieder austrocknet. Wegen der knappe Schnee- und Wasserreserven in den Bergen prüfen jetzt auch andere Berghütten wie Watzmannhaus und Knorrhütte wasserlose Klos. Berghütten müssen in in Zukunft wegen des Klimawandels und für den Ressourcenschutz mit jeder Spülung und jedem Liter Wasser extrem sparsam umgehen.
