Rio Claro é uma cidade de Estado do São Paulo. Os habitantes se chamam rio-clarenses.
O município se estende por 498,7 km² e contava com 201 418 habitantes no último censo. A densidade demográfica é de 403,9 habitantes por km² no território do município.
Vizinho dos municípios de Santa Gertrudes, Araras e Corumbataí, Rio Claro se situa a 24 km a Norte-Oeste de Limeira.
Situado a 617 metros de altitude, de Rio Claro tem as seguintes coordenadas geográficas: Latitude: 22° 24' 39'' Sul, Longitude: 47° 33' 39'' Oeste.
Rio Claro é um município do interior de São Paulo, localizado a 173 km da capital e a 85 km do Aeroporto de Viracopos. Com cerca de 211 mil habitantes (IBGE), a cidade destaca-se por seu forte polo cerâmico regional, excelente Índice de Desenvolvimento Humano (IDH) e por ser conhecida como "A Pérola do Interior".
O município surgiu em 1845, quando ganhou a sua autonomia administrativa, com a denominação de São João do Rio Claro, tendo seu nome simplificado para Rio Claro em 1905.
