Bangladesh is moving closer to acquiring China’s J-10CE fighter jets — and the development has triggered fresh questions about India’s security environment. A draft proposal reportedly covers 20 J-10CE fighter aircraft, with the overall programme estimated at around $2.302 billion, including aircraft, training, logistics, technical support and infrastructure.
But what has made the development particularly controversial is the statement linking the J-10C to the Rafale shootdown claims during the May 2025 India-Pakistan conflict and Operation Sindoor. Pakistan has claimed that Chinese-made J-10C fighters and PL-15 missiles were used against Indian aircraft. However, the extent of those losses and the specific claims surrounding Rafales remain disputed. More recent reporting on an Indian Air Force support proposal covering all 36 Rafale aircraft has further challenged Pakistan’s narrative.
