Но идея не исчезла. Французы пытались сделать что-то подобное в Тунисе. Египет позже рассматривал возможность использования атомных бомб для рытья канала. Были также планы построить дамбу в Северном море и превратить его в пресноводное озеро, а также построить дамбу на реке Конго, чтобы создать гигантские внутренние моря в Африке. Ни один из этих проектов так и не был реализован. Но некоторые из них всё ещё могут быть возможны.
