Si tratta di una stima difensiva di categoria, ripresa da numerose testate come notizia autonoma. Un caso che si inserisce in un dibattito più ampio sui meccanismi con cui l'informazione seleziona e amplifica alcuni temi: dalle narrazioni sulla guerra in #Ucraina — come quella, circolata nel 2022, sui militari russi che avrebbero smontato elettrodomestici per recuperarne i semiconduttori destinati ai mezzi militari — fino ai titoli ricorrenti sull'"estate più calda di sempre", spesso costruiti su serie storiche limitate agli ultimi decenni.
Il caso dei "danni da caldo" alle auto
Su questo episodio interviene Antonio #Amorosi, giornalista d'inchiesta, che definisce "incredibile" l'idea che uno sbalzo di pochi gradi possa mandare in grippaggio un motore, ricordando che il propulsore "lavora a temperature di suo talmente elevate che i 10 gradi in più o in meno dell'ambiente esterno sono totalmente ininfluenti". Amorosi collega il caso a una riflessione più ampia sulla crisi del giornalismo d'inchiesta, sottolineando che fare informazione verificata "ha dei costi", legati al tempo delle ricerche, alla tenuta degli staff redazionali e alla capacità di resistere a querele.

Sul piano teorico interviene Alberto #Contri, docente di comunicazione sociale, che richiama la lezione di Jürgen Habermas sulla agenda setting, chiedendosi chi stabilisca "che cosa è prioritario" nel dibattito pubblico. Amorosi porta come ulteriore esempio la propria esperienza di lettore, spiegando di aver smesso di seguire un grande quotidiano dopo aver letto la storia, poi ridimensionata, dei "chip delle lavatrici" usati per i carri armati russi, e citando i grafici sul clima che mostrano solo gli ultimi 60 anni di rilevazioni.
