Sollte US-Präsident Donald Trump sich entschließen, militärisch in den Konflikt zwischen Israel und dem Iran einzugreifen, wäre die GBU-57 die Waffe seiner Wahl. Diese bunkerbrechende Bombe ist die einzige strategische Waffe, welche die unterirdischen iranischen Atomanlagen zerstören könnte.

Die 13 Tonnen schwere Bombe GBU-57 kann sich Dutzende Meter ins Erdreich rammen, bevor sie explodiert. Diese Waffe fehlt in Israels Arsenal, um das erklärte Kriegsziel zu erreichen: Teheran am Bau einer Atombombe zu hindern.

Wie wird sie abgeworfen?

US-Kampfflugzeuge vom Typ B-2 sind die einzigen, die diese Bombe abwerfen können. Einige dieser Tarnkappenflugzeuge waren Anfang Mai auf der US-Militärbasis Diego Garcia im Indischen Ozean stationiert. Mitte Juni waren sie dort nicht mehr zu sehen, wie eine Analyse von Satellitenaufnahmen von PlanetLabs durch AFP ergab.
