We're taught early to sort people into columns: hero or villain, good or bad, rarely both. This talk pulls that instinct apart through the lens of great literature: from Frankenstein’s Creature to Achilles, it shows how the characters we remember the most are never just one thing. They’re often both aspects in the same breath. It then turns that same lens on real life- asking why we extend fictional characters the patience to be complicated but deny real people the same. Rooted in this year’s theme, Beyond the Binary, the talk argues that the binary itself is fiction; the more honest and realistic story is the one where good and bad simply refuse to separate. Aripra is an IBDP student at Chirec, studying Maths AA, Economics and Physics as her Higher Levels. Off stage, she’s usually rewatching Brooklyn 99 for the fifth time or blasting Green Day like it's her life motto. Ask her what she identifies with most and there’s a high chance she’ll throw a John Green quote your way: "I go to seek a great perhaps." As an avid monologuer at heart, Aripra is genuinely excited to bring a talk to life on a theme she relates to more than she probably should.
