On July 29, 2019, VG Siddhartha, the Coffee King of India and founder of Café Coffee Day, took a day that would change everything. Without his usual two-car convoy, he left for Mangalore but unexpectedly instructed his driver to drop him off at a bridge, disappearing after walking away. When a missing report was filed, a troubling note revealed Siddhartha's struggles with mounting pressure and debt within his business empire. Despite running a seemingly successful brand with nearly 1,700 cafés, the reality was far bleaker. Siddhartha's past roots in coffee and stockbroking shaped his journey, leading to the establishment of Amalgamated Bean Coffee Trading Company. However, burdens from debt, failed expansions, and difficult market conditions spiraled out of control, culminating in his tragic decision to take his own life. In the aftermath, his family worked to salvage the business, focusing on sustainability and restructuring.
