In a likely hate crime incident, a 70-year-old Sikh man was brutally attacked in broad daylight with a golf club by a man. The attack took place on August 4 near a Sikh temple in North Hollywood, Los Angeles. 70-year-old Harpal Singh, a retired college professor from India and a US citizen, remains in critical condition after at least three surgeries. Members of the Sikh community in North Hollywood are demanding a fast-tracked and fair probe into what they say is a targeted hate crime. The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) is actively seeking leads as the attacker is still on the run. The incident comes amid rising concerns over violence against Indian Americans, especially in the state of California. In recent years, not just Sikhs, but even Hindus have faced harassment, assaults and even deadly attacks.
