Già nel 1951 un accordo tra #StatiUniti e #Danimarca concedeva a #Washington ampia libertà militare sull’isola, considerata strategica fin dal secondo dopoguerra per la sicurezza americana. Un trattato poco noto, modificato nel 2004 durante la presidenza Bush Jr., che resta tuttora un pilastro della presenza statunitense nel Nord Atlantico.
La Groenlandia è infatti un punto chiave nelle traiettorie più brevi tra #Russia e Stati Uniti: missili e aerei diretti verso la East Coast passano dal Polo Nord, rendendo l’isola uno “scudo” geostrategico irrinunciabile. Non a caso gli USA hanno sempre rivendicato il diritto di installare basi militari sul territorio, oggi ufficialmente solo due, ma sufficienti a garantire una presenza stabile.
