South Korea To Deploy "Monster" Missiles As North Korea's Kim Jong Un Raises Stakes | Spotlight | N18GSouth Korea said it's preparing to deploy the Hyunmoo-5, its largest and most powerful ballistic missile to date, dubbed the “Monster Missile” by local media. Weighing 36 tonnes and capable of carrying an 8-tonne bunker-buster warhead, the Hyunmoo-5 is designed for deep-underground strikes, with a range extending up to 5,000 kilometres. Defence Minister Ahn Gyu-back said Seoul must build "a considerable number" of these missiles to achieve a "balance of terror" against the North. The missile's development follows decades of tensions, US payload restrictions lifted in 2017, and North Korea's continued weapons buildup. As Pyongyang flaunts its own new ICBMs, President Lee Jae Myung vows record defence spending to make South Korea the world’s fourth-largest defence powerhouse.
