Pakistan prepares for US-Iran talks amid cautious optimism
Pakistan has brokered a breakthrough in US-Iran tensions, with talks set in Islamabad on Friday, a day after a two-week ceasefire was announced.US Vice President JD Vance and envoy Steve Witkoff are expected to lead the American delegation, with an Iranian team due to arrive.
Islamabad credits its ties with both Washington and Tehran, alongside support from China, Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Turkey, for securing the talks.
Unprecedented security will be in place for the Iranian delegation amid concerns over past targeting.
There is cautious optimism, though key sticking points remain.
