US strikes southern Iran as tensions rise over Strait of Hormuz and regional attacks
The United States has launched a new wave of air strikes on southern Iran, targeting military infrastructure and coastal areas near the Strait of Hormuz.Iranian officials report attacks on Bandar Abbas, Qeshm Island and other locations, with casualties and damage to transport infrastructure. The US military says the strikes are intended to weaken Iran’s military capabilities.
Iran says it has responded with attacks targeting US assets in Kuwait, Bahrain and Jordan, while regional governments have condemned the escalation and called for restraint.
The White House says diplomacy remains possible despite the ongoing military campaign, while Qatar has rejected reports alleging it agreed to participate in military action against Iran, reaffirming its role as a mediator.
