Recordamos a la periodista libanesa Amal Khalil, muerta en un ataque israelí

El miércoles 22 de abril, las fuerzas militares israelíes mataron a la destacada periodista libanesa Amal Khalil, a pesar de estar vigente el alto el fuego entre Israel y el Líbano. Khalil y su colega, la fotógrafa Zeinab Faraj, estaban reportando desde el sur del Líbano cuando un dron israelí impactó en un auto cerca suyo, matando a dos civiles. Khalil y Faraj se refugiaron en un edificio cercano pero Israel también atacó ese edificio. El personal médico y de emergencias rescató a Faraj pero comenzaron a recibir disparos cuando se disponían a rescatar a Khalil y, durante las siguientes seis horas, el ejército israelí les impidió volver a acercarse. Khalil ya había muerto cuando se pudo recuperar su cuerpo de los escombros.

La obstrucción deliberada a las tareas de rescate es “un crimen de guerra y requiere una investigación internacional”, sostiene Sara Qudah, directora regional del Comité para la Protección de los Periodistas para Medio Oriente y el Norte de África.

Amal Khalil es la novena periodista muerta a manos de Israel en el Líbano en lo que va de 2026. En 2024, Khalil le dijo a los medios locales que había recibido una amenaza de muerte de parte del Mossad, la agencia de inteligencia israelí, que le advertía que sería decapitada si no abandonaba el sur del Líbano. “Esto es lo que Israel está tratando de hacer. Está tratando de impedir que una audiencia muchísimo más amplia pueda acceder a la verdad y ver los crímenes de guerra que se están llevando a cabo a diario [en el Líbano]”, plantea Steve Sweeney, director de la oficina del canal de noticias ruso RT en el Líbano, quien sobrevivió a un ataque israelí en el mes de marzo.
