KOMPAS.TV- Melansir dari Kompas.com, Guru Besar bidang Ilmu Sejarah Peradaban Islam UIN Raden Mas Said Surakarta, Syamsul Bakri menjelaskan gelar Haji hanya ada di IndonesiaMenurutnya, di negara lain gelar Haji di depan nama seseorang tidak berlaku. Bahkan, bagi orang-orang di negara-negara Arab.
"Buktinya di Timur Tengah tidak ada gelar Haji, orang Barat juga tidak bergelar Haji walaupun sudah Ibadah Haji", tegas Syamsul Bakri Dilansir dari Kompas.com, 25 Juni 2024.
Syamsul menambahkan, gelar Haji ini awalnya bukan sebagai tanda gelar penghormatan. Ketika zaman Kolonial Belanda gelar Haji disematkan untuk antisipasi para Haji mempengaruhi masyarakat melakukan pemberontakan dan kritik terhadap pemerintahan Hindia Belanda.
