Esta cinta fue dirigida por Leigh Scott y representa una adaptación, sumamente libre y contemporánea, de la novela clásica La Isla Del Tesoro de Robert Louis Stevenson. Su lanzamiento fue estratégicamente programado justo antes del estreno de Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest (Piratas Del Caribe: El Cofre De La Muerte), sirviendo como un claro ejemplo de la táctica de The Asylum de capitalizar la popularidad de grandes éxitos de estudio con producciones de bajo presupuesto.
