Hitze wird für Deutschland zu einem immer größeren wirtschaftlichen Risiko. Eine Analyse kommt zu dem Ergebnis, dass allein die Hitzewelle Ende Juni rund 6,3 Milliarden Euro gekostet und die deutsche Wirtschaft belastet hat. „Bei Temperaturen über 35 Grad kann man Pi mal Daumen mit einer Belastung von etwa einer Milliarde Euro pro Tag rechnen", erklärt Manuel Koch. Besonders betroffen sind das verarbeitende Gewerbe, das Gesundheitswesen, der Handel, das Baugewerbe, die Logistik und die Energiebranche. Die Folgen: sinkende Produktivität, höhere Kühl- und Energiekosten sowie Probleme bei Transporten und Lieferketten. Für das Gesamtjahr könnten sich die Schäden laut der im Interview besprochenen Analyse auf bis zu 20 Milliarden Euro summieren. „Die Mitarbeiter sind einfach nicht so aufnahmefähig, nicht so produktiv. Bei hohen Temperaturen arbeiten die Menschen einfach langsamer, unkonzentrierter und brauchen häufiger Pausen."
