Un estudiante de poca monta que fracasa en París, descubre el comunismo y acaba ordenando el asesinato de 2 millones de personas. La cuarta parte de toda la población de su propio país. Y lo hace en menos de cuatro años.Esta es la historia de Pol Pot y los Jemeres Rojos: uno de los experimentos más delirantes y brutales que ha vivido la humanidad. Un régimen que prohibió el dinero, quemó las bibliotecas, cerró todos los hospitales y ejecutaba a la gente por llevar gafas. Literalmente.
Lo que más me flipa del tema, y que no sale casi en ningún sitio, es el papel que jugó Estados Unidos en todo esto: primero bombardeando Camboya ilegalmente y creando el caldo de cultivo para que los Jemeres Rojos crecieran, y luego, después del genocidio, apoyando a Pol Pot porque les convenía más él que un régimen pro-soviético. Increíble pero real.
