Iran Air - Homa | National Airline of Iran

Iran Air – Homa tells the story of the golden age of Iran’s national airline, a time when Homa was not only a symbol of modern Iranian aviation, but also a powerful expression of the country’s ambition, confidence, and international reach.

Long before Emirates, Qatar Airways, Etihad, and the rise of the Gulf airlines turned the region into a global aviation hub, Homa had already placed Iran at the centre of air travel between East and West. From Tehran, Iran Air connected continents, carried world leaders, tourists, pilgrims, businesspeople, and international celebrities, and helped present Iran as a modern, confident, and outward-looking country.

Founded in the early 1960s after the merger and nationalisation of Iran’s civil aviation companies, Homa began with a small fleet of propeller aircraft. Within just over a decade, it had become one of the most respected airlines in the world, known for its modern fleet, highly trained pilots and crew, advanced service standards, and impressive safety record.

Through rare archival footage, original broadcasts, and historic images, this documentary follows the extraordinary rise of Iran Air: from the creation of its iconic Homa logo, inspired by the mythical bird of Persepolis, to its role in hosting international aviation conferences, transporting global leaders during the 2,500-year celebrations, and helping turn Iran into a major transit hub between East and West.

The film explores how Homa became closely connected to Iran’s wider modernisation project. Its aircraft carried tourists, artists, world leaders, pilgrims, businesspeople, and celebrities. Its hotels, catering services, flight attendants, international offices, and cultural tours helped present a modern, elegant, and welcoming image of Iran to the world.

At the centre of the story is the arrival of the Boeing 747SP, the fastest passenger aircraft of its time, which allowed Homa to launch historic long-haul routes, including Tehran–London–New York and the direct New York–Tehran flight. These flights placed Iran Air among the world’s most advanced airlines and made Homa a symbol of national pride.

Iran Air – Homa is the story of an airline, but also the story of an era: an Iran that believed it could compete with the best in the world, connect continents, welcome travellers, and carry its name, culture, and identity across the skies. Receive SMS online on sms24.me
