Mali: Gunfire, Explosions Heard Across Cities As Armed Men Launch Attacks | FP Video
Mali is facing a new wave of violence as the junta reports surprise attacks by what it calls 'terrorist groups' across key regions, including areas around the capital, Bamako. Intense fighting has also been reported in Kati, the hometown of the junta leader, where residents say a powerful blast destroyed the house of the country’s defence minister. Officials say the minister is safe. Attacks have also been reported in northern and central regions, including Gao, Kidal, and Sevare. Meanwhile, Tuareg rebels from the Azawad Liberation Front (FLA) claim they have seized control of the northern city of Kidal. The Malian junta has labelled the group a 'terrorist' organisation. The army says the situation is under control and that several attackers have been neutralised. Amid the escalating violence, the U.S. Embassy in Mali has issued a security alert, urging citizens to shelter in place.---
