La scelta di partecipare insieme alla costruzione dell’Unione Europea – comunità di valori – sancisce in modo netto il rifiuto delle ideologie totalitarie che avevano tristemente segnato la storia del Novecento. In questa prospettiva, come già auspicava lo stesso De Gasperi, i confini, da storici ostacoli naturali o artificiali, sono divenuti punti di incontro tra terre e popoli desiderosi di vivere in armonia e prosperare assieme”.
