Si se convierte en ley, sería “la mayor restricción del acceso al voto jamás aprobada por el Congreso”, sostiene Ari Berman, corresponsal de derechos electorales de la revista Mother Jones. “Es un proyecto de ley que combina muchas de las peores ideas que tiene el Partido Republicano con respecto al proceso electoral y se está tratando en un momento en que Trump parece decidido a tratar de interferir en las elecciones de mitad de período”, añade.
Tras la votación del miércoles la legislación pasa al Senado, que también cuenta con mayoría republicana, donde se espera que llegue a tratarse, pero tiene pocas probabilidades de obtener la mayoría de 60 votos que necesita para ser aprobada sin admitir tácticas de obstrucción.
