Alaska Meeting: 3 Ways To Assess The Geopolitical "Reality" Of The Summit
In this video I take apart 3 currently circulating interpretations of what the upcoming Trump–Putin summit is all about, each carrying very different implications.First, there’s the continuity of agenda and division of labor view, put forward by Brian Berletic. This pessimistic reading assumes a coordinated plan between factions in Washington and Moscow, with the summit as part of a pre-agreed script. Historically plausible, it risks overestimating cohesion in the US political system, ignoring factional disputes and moments of genuine change. As Edward Snowden warned, it may project deliberate intent onto loosely connected events.
Second, Trump might be out of options to avoid a humiliating defeat. This aligns with the first view but adds elements of uncertainty: Trump could be seeking a face-saving exit from the Ukraine conflict. Short-term damage control might outweigh the deep state’s long-term strategic goals, potentially to prevent Ukraine’s total destruction—a stance Trump voiced during his campaign.
Third, Trump could be genuinely pursuing peace. This optimistic scenario casts him as an outsider correcting the system, even against internal resistance. It’s contradicted by recent hawkish moves—like the Iran war scare and neocon appointments—but could be explained by misinformation and sabotage. If true, the summit might signal a real pivot in US foreign policy toward disengagement.
