TRAUER IN BIRMINGHAM: Black Sabbath Frontmann und Heavy-Metal-Ikone Ozzy Osbourne gestorbenOzzy Osbourne, der Sänger der legendären Heavy-Metal-Band Black Sabbath, ist tot. Osbourne starb am Dienstag im Alter von 76 Jahren, wie seine Familie mitteilte. Erst vor zwei Wochen war der an Parkinson erkrankte Sänger bei einem Abschiedskonzert in seiner Heimatstadt Birmingham aufgetreten.
Osbourne sei im Kreise seiner Familie "und umgeben von Liebe" gestorben, hieß es in der Erklärung. Am 5. Juli war er gemeinsam mit seinen Bandkollegen Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler und Bill Ward im Stadion des Fußballclubs Aston Villa in Birmingham aufgetreten.
Es war das erste Mal seit 20 Jahren, dass die legendäre Band in Originalbesetzung auf der Bühne stand. Karten für das Konzert, bei dem auch Metalbands wie Metallica, Guns N'Roses, Tool und Slayer auftraten, waren im Februar innerhalb von 16 Minuten ausverkauft. Fans, die keine Tickets ergattert hatten, konnten das Abschiedskonzert online als Stream miterleben.
Black Sabbath gelten als Pioniere des Heavy Metal. Die Band verkaufte während ihrer jahrzehntelangen Karriere mehr als 75 Millionen Alben. Osbourne hatte seine Parkinson-Diagnose 2020 öffentlich gemacht.
