La primera ministra italiana, Giorgia Meloni, afirmó que la izquierda está en pánico por la victoria del presidente estadounidense Donald Trump, acusando a los liberales de hipocresía y a los conservadores globales de ser llamados injustamente una "amenaza para la democracia".Hablando a través de un enlace de video en la Conferencia de Acción Política Conservadora (CPAC) en Washington DC el sábado, Meloni elogió a Trump y al vicepresidente estadounidense JD Vance mientras criticaba a las "élites" y a los políticos de izquierda.
Meloni también defendió a JD Vance, quien enfrentó críticas por su discurso en la Conferencia de Seguridad de Múnich, donde dijo que la mayor amenaza de Europa provenía "desde dentro".
La participación de Meloni en CPAC se produjo en medio de llamados de líderes de la oposición italiana para cancelar su aparición.
