Russia-Ukraine Ceasefire Talks Fail to Make Headway. Trump Wants to Meet Putin & Zelensky | N18GDelegates from Ukraine and Russia met in Istanbul on Monday for a second round of direct peace talks, more than two years after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine began in February 2022. The discussions, mediated by Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, focused on each side’s vision for ending the war. However, the meeting ended without a ceasefire agreement. Ukrainian officials said Russia refused their core demand of an unconditional ceasefire, which is also backed by the U.S. and European nations. Meanwhile, Russia suggested a short, localised truce lasting two to three days, but didn’t give specifics. Despite the deadlock, both sides agreed on humanitarian actions: exchanging all severely wounded, sick, and under-25 prisoners of war, and returning the bodies of 12,000 fallen soldiers.
