Cụ thể, ngày 21-6, Tổng thống Nga Vladimir Putin nói rằng Nga sẽ nâng cấp kho vũ khí hạt nhân vì đây là bước đi bảo đảm cho an ninh quốc gia, theo đài RT. Theo ông Putin, Nga sẽ “sử dụng mọi phương tiện sẵn” có để tự vệ nếu sự tồn tại của nhà nước Nga bị đe dọa. “Chúng tôi có kế hoạch phát triển hơn nữa bộ ba hạt nhân như một sự đảm bảo cho khả năng răn đe chiến lược và duy trì sự cân bằng quyền lực trên thế giới” - ông Putin nói tại cuộc gặp với các sinh viên tốt nghiệp các trường quân sự Nga. Theo RT, “bộ ba hạt nhân” của Nga bao gồm tên lửa đạn đạo xuyên lục địa trên đất liền, tên lửa đạn đạo phóng từ tàu ngầm và máy bay ném bom chiến lược, tất cả đều có thể mang đầu đạn hạt nhân. Tuần này, nhà lãnh đạo Nga cảnh báo rằng các mối đe dọa từ phương Tây sẽ thúc đẩy Moscow “làm mọi cách” để đạt được mục tiêu ở Ukraine.
