US-Präsident Donald Trump will an diesem Dienstagabend vor beiden Kammern des US-Parlaments seine mit Spannung erwartete Ansprache halten. In der Rede zur Lage der Nation («State of the Union») geben Präsidenten alljährlich auch einen Ausblick auf den von ihnen angestrebten Kurs für die Vereinigten Staaten. Erwartet wird, dass sich Trump unter anderem zu den Verhandlungen zwischen Washington und Teheran über das iranische Atomprogramm positionieren wird.
Nach Trumps Rede steht traditionell die Antwort der Opposition an. In diesem Jahr wird die demokratische Gouverneurin des Bundesstaats Virginia, Abigail Spanberger, an das Pult treten.
