Nella mattinata di venerdì 29 maggio, nella sala stucchi della sede municipale di Ca' Farsetti a Venezia, si è svolto il passaggio di consegne tra il sindaco uscente Luigi Brugnaro e il sindaco eletto Simone Venturini. Dopo il saluto del picchetto d'onore del Comando della Polizia Locale si è svolta la cerimonia con il passaggio della fascia di primo cittadino tra Brugnaro e Venturini. A prendere la parola per primo il sindaco uscente: «Ho portato questa fascia con tanta dedizione ma oggi è con grande onore e con grande piacere che la affido a Simone che credo sia il miglior sindaco che Venezia possa avere. Non ho dubbi che sarà un grande primo cittadino per tutti». Con la fascia indossata è intervenuto il primo cittadino Venturini che dopo aver ringraziato il sindaco uscente ha detto: «Per i prossimi cinque anni amministrerò Venezia con vicinanza al territorio portando avanti una eredità importante in termini di azioni e investimenti. Sento il peso delle aspettative che i veneziani mi hanno consegnato votandomi: da oggi sarò il sindaco di tutti, di quelli che mi hanno votato e quelli che non lo hanno fatto e terrò fede alle tante speranze, sogni, fragilità, istanze che mi sono state portate dai cittadini. Il mio primo impegno è di lavorare ogni giorno per Venezia, perché non ho dubbi che se lo faremo tutti assieme in armonia la renderemo sempre più grande».
