Получив сигнал SOS из научно-исследовательского комплекса «Восток», отважный полярник со станции «Мирный» поспешил на помощь. Но что же скрывается за запертыми дверьми антарктической базы? Почему пропала связь, и куда делись все сотрудники? Главному герою The Black Ice предстоит раскрыть множество тайн, столкнуться с опасными противниками и сохранить рассудок.
Игра получила свое название в честь редкого геологического явления, которое возникает под воздействием экстремальных условий в глубинах антарктического льда. Этот лед аномально черного цвета, что может быть связано с наличием в его структуре инородных частиц неизвестного происхождения, возможно, космического. Например, в его составе могут быть обнаружены следы метеоритной пыли или других экзотических веществ, которые попали на Землю миллионы лет назад и были погребены ледниковыми массами.
