US Unveils 'Sentinel,' A Weapon 32 Times More Powerful Than Hiroshima | Vantage on Firstpost | 4K
The United States has unveiled new images of one of its most lethal nuclear weapons. The Sentinel Intercontinental Ballistic Missile is soon going to be America's nuclear workhorse and will replace the Minuteman III missiles that have been in service since the 1970s. The Sentinel will be armed with the W87-1 thermonuclear warhead and will have a nuclear yield of 475 kilotons, which will be 32 times more powerful than 'Little Boy,' the atom bomb that was dropped on Hiroshima. The W87-1 has already been diamond-stamped, which means it has met all quality standards needed for pre-development. The Sentinel will have a range up to 9,000 kilometres and the United States will eventually operate a fleet of more than 600 Sentinel missiles. As the missile race heats up between the US, Russia and China, the US Air Force is betting on the Sentinel for America's nuclear deterrence. Hem Kaur Saroya explains on Vantage on Firstpost.---
