Speaker Johnson: New CR would ‘do us no good’ amid shutdown

We learned today that White House budget chief Russ Vought expects the number of federal firings to get 'much higher' as the government shutdown continues for another week. A new study shows that the ongoing shutdown is severely impacting the District of Columbia, Hawaii, and New Mexico. This is largely due to the high concentration of federal workers and government contracts in these areas. Joining LiveNOW’s Austin Westfall with the latest from Washington is Congressional and White House Radio Correspondent with Fox News Radio, Ryan Schmelz.

Vought said on "The Charlie Kirk Show" that the number of people laid off under the reduction in force process is likely to grow.

"We’re definitely talking thousands of people," Vought said. "Much of the reporting has been based on kind of court snapshots which they have articulated as in the 4,000 number of people. But that’s just a snapshot, and I think it’ll get much higher. And we’re going to keep those RIFs rolling throughout the shutdown. We think it's important to stay on offense for the American taxpayer."
