Marwan wafat di rumahnya di Tal al-Hawa, barat daya Kota Gaza, Palestina.
Sugiono menegaskan bahwa dirinya tak memihak kedua negara namun tak menolerir alasan pembenar apapun dalam penargetan tenaga medis dan fasilitas kemanusiaan termasuk dalam wilayah konflik.
"Tidak ada justifikasi, tidak ada sama sekali, untuk menargetkan tenaga medis dan fasilitas kemanusiaan. Ini bukan soal keberpihakan, ini soal keberanian untuk membela nilai-nilai universal,” kata Sugiono dalam Pertemuan Tingkat Menteri KTT Asia Timur (EAS) di Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, Jumat (11/7/2025).
