India has secured a small but important breakthrough in the middle of the Strait of Hormuz crisis. Two Indian LPG tankers have been allowed to pass through the contested waterway after diplomatic talks with Iran. One of the ships — Shivalik — has already arrived in Gujarat carrying around 40,000 metric tonnes of cooking gas, while another tanker is expected to arrive soon. Together, the vessels are delivering 92,000 tonnes of LPG, providing short-term relief for India’s cooking gas supply chain. India depends heavily on imports for its LPG needs, with a large share of supplies travelling through the Strait of Hormuz. The war in West Asia has disrupted this route, leaving dozens of ships stranded in the Persian Gulf.New Delhi is now working diplomatically to secure safe passage for the remaining tankers carrying Indian supplies, while also monitoring the domestic LPG situation closely. But even with these shipments arriving, India’s energy supply chain remains under pressure as the conflict continues to disrupt global shipping routes.
