En las últimas semanas, Estados Unidos ha bombardeado en el mar Caribe varias embarcaciones venezonalas que presuntamente transportaban drogas, provocando la muerte de al menos a 17 personas sin proporcionar ninguna evidencia clara de que estuvieran involucradas en el tráfico de drogas ni con el Gobierno en Caracas. Estados Unidos también ha incrementado su presencia militar en el Caribe y ha ofrecido una recompensa de 50 millones por información que vincule al presidente Nicolás Maduro con el narcotráfico.
La presencia militar de Estados Unidos en el Caribe “es un acto de agresión y una amenaza de agresión en la región”, dice Fernández de Cossío. “Sin evidencia ninguna, han estado bombardeando embarcaciones que, por cierto, no se sabe siquiera si esto está ocurriendo en el Caribe, lo suponemos, pero no hay idea de dónde salen, hacia dónde se dirigen ni cual es el propósito de estas personas.
