NASA Creates a Helicopter That Breaks the Sound Barrier

Flying a helicopter on Mars already sounds impossible. Flying one faster than sound sounds completely insane. Yet NASA engineers have successfully tested helicopter rotor blades at supersonic speeds under simulated Martian conditions. In a giant vacuum chamber, the blades reached Mach 1.08 while operating in an atmosphere similar to Mars - a world where the air is so thin that flight should barely be possible at all.
