Back in 2011, aspiring Reddit comedian and self described beta leftist Peter Coffin invented a fake girlfriend — an 18-year-old Japanese model named Kimi Kobayashi, built from photos he lifted off a Korean model's profile — and then proceeded to flirt with her, defend her honour, compliment his own anatomy through her, and conduct a very public eight-month "power couple of Twitter" romance. With himself. SugarTits and I are here to make sure this story is never lost to time.

The catch: Peter got the original video taken down years ago, scrubbing it off YouTube. But I found me old archive USB in a cupboard, so the Kimi Kobayashi/Peter Coffin saga rises again.
We go through the whole thing — the tweets that are so unmistakably one person it's painful, the Reddit AMA where linguistics students confirmed the same writer produced both halves of the "relationship," the "I was catfished by a mysterious third party" defence that collapses the second you ask who would possibly benefit, the Skype claims, the missing DMs he could never produce, and the interview where he gets so salty and admits he "should have" leaked the messages that prove his innocence. If they “existed”.

The cherry on top: Peter later wrote a book about people building fake realities around themselves online. No, really.
