Does China make a better Range Rover than Range Rover?

Mat’s got his hands on a Jaecoo 7 and a Range Rover Evoque, and he’s about to go head-to-head with them both to see which is best! He’ll be comparing the design, interior, performance, and a whole host of other categories to see whether this Chinese SUV is really a better pick than the World-renowned Range Rover! So let’s get into it…

Starting with the design, the Evoque we have here was launched in 2018. It’s had a midlife facelift since then, but that's brought only a few tweaks and changes. Up front, it has a smallish grille, but the overall design still looks smart. Along the side, it comes with black pillars to give the roof a slight floating effect, and this car was one of the first to introduce pop-out door handles. Around the back, there’s a roof spoiler, as well as large Range Rover badging.

As for the Jaecoo, the front end is notably different from the Evoque, with a huge grille flanked either side by headlights with a kind of upside-down effect. Along the side, the similarities to the Evoque are extremely noticeable! It also comes with pop-out door handles, and for cars in White, it also has black pillars. Around the back, there’s also a large Jaecoo badge - just like the Evoque!

On the inside, the similarities are once again noticeable. The Range Rover comes with a clean centre console dominated by a large gear lever, and there are minimal physical buttons, with most functionality controlled through the infotainment screen. The seats are made from leather and are comfortable, while the majority of the cabin is covered in soft-touch materials.

The Jaecoo has a similar & clean centre console, although the drive selector is now a stalk on the steering wheel. There’s also a large infotainment screen dominating the dash, and soft-touch materials higher up in the cabin. Reach a bit lower, however, and scratchy plastics are easy to find! The seats are made from faux leather, but they feel just as nice as those in the Range Rover.

As for the price, the Jaecoo starts from just £30,115, while the Range Rover starts from £44,380. The cars we have here, however, have several options added. So while the Jaecoo costs around £35,000, the Range Rover comes in at over £52,000!

So is the Evoque really worth almost £20,000 more than the Jaecoo? Or is his all-new Chinese entrant the one to choose? You’ll need to stick with Mat to see for yourself!
