One Last Landing: Lufthansa’s A340-600 Farewell
Join Flightradar24’s Ian and Sophia onboard Lufthansa’s final Airbus A340-600 passenger flight, LH419 from Washington Dulles to Frankfurt, as we say goodbye to one of the most distinctive airliners ever built. We take you out onto the ramp at IAD before boarding this historic farewell flight, then bring you along through the (long) cabin and across the Atlantic. With a mounted camera in the cockpit and multiple camera angles capturing the final arrival in Frankfurt, we follow the A340-600 home at the end of almost 23 years of passenger service with Lufthansa.
Along the way, we explore what made this four engine giant special, from its extraordinary length to its place in Lufthansa’s long haul fleet, and why the economics of modern twin engine aircraft ultimately brought its time to an end.
Plus, a bonus from an earlier flight: Gabe’s footage of the famous Canarsie approach into New York JFK – both wing view from seat 7A and cockpit POV – giving us another chance to enjoy the A340-600 in action before the farewell.
We also look at what comes next for Lufthansa’s remaining A340-600s, with planned stops in Düsseldorf for the removal of cabin components before onward flights to storage in Teruel, Spain. Their ultimate future remains unknown.
Do you have a favorite A340-600 memory? Tell us in the comments.
