I Finally Tried Balochi Food in PAKISTAN! Was It Good?

I’ve finally tried Balochi food in Pakistan! I’ve wanted to try Balochi cuisine for a long time, but travelling through Balochistan isn’t always easy. So instead, I headed to a restaurant in Karachi to get a taste of some traditional Balochi food and find out what it’s really like.

The star of this video is Balochi Sajji, one of the most famous foods associated with Balochistan. I get to see how it’s prepared, explore the restaurant’s huge kitchen, and then finally sit down to try it for myself.

But Balochi cuisine is about much more than Sajji. I also learn about traditional foods including Laandhi, dried meat, Kaak, a hard bread traditionally baked around a stone, and Gwadari Halwa, a distinctive green semolina sweet cooked over a wood fire.

One of the things that surprised me most about Balochi food is how simple the cooking can be. There isn’t necessarily a huge amount of masala or complicated seasoning. Instead, the cooking focuses heavily on the meat itself, with salt, fire and traditional cooking methods doing much of the work.

So the big question is: is Balochi food actually too bland, or does the simplicity make it better?

I’ll also get a look at some of the other food being prepared in the kitchen, including Khaddi Kebab and other meat dishes, before discovering just how seriously security is taken at this restaurant.

This was my first real introduction to Balochi cuisine, and I’m curious what people from Balochistan think of my reaction. If you’re Balochi or you’ve travelled through Balochistan, tell me in the comments what food I absolutely need to try next!

Have you tried Balochi Sajji? What did you think?
