Secondo quanto riportato dalla La Gazzetta dello Sport, l'unico a pagare davvero le conseguenze del match è stato Pierre Kalulu: espulsione ritenuta ingiusta e squalifica automatica per la partita successiva.
Le immagini rallentate delle telecamere (oggi sempre più numerose e precise) mostrerebbero che il fallo contestato non c'era. L'avversario avrebbe simulato il contatto, inducendo l'arbitro all’errore. Nei giorni successivi, tra polemiche e pressione mediatica, sono arrivate anche delle scuse pubbliche.
Kalulu ha accettato la decisione con grande correttezza. Ma il punto centrale resta: oltre all’espulsione, scatterà comunque la squalifica. Perché? Perché 'lo prevedono le regole'. L’espulsione comporta automaticamente la squalifica per la gara successiva. La prova TV, in questo caso, non può intervenire. E difficilmente si ricorrerà a strumenti straordinari.
