Ao longo do tempo, um mito romântico foi construído em torno da vida e obra do célebre pintor pós-impressionista Vincent van Gogh (1853-1890). Sua produção singular e profundamente original foi frequentemente interpretada como a expressão de um “gênio louco”, entrelaçando suas inovações estéticas com os desafios psíquicos que enfrentou. O seminário Van Gogh delirante convida renomados historiadores da arte e curadores a refletir sobre a relação entre a condição de saúde mental e a produção artística de Van Gogh.Nas últimas décadas, a historiografia da arte tem se dedicado a investigar como concepções históricas da loucura influenciaram a associação entre transtornos mentais e imaginação artística, relacionada à ideia de “gênio artístico”. A obra de Van Gogh é emblemática nesse sentido, despertando interesse contínuo pelas complexas relações entre arte, cultura e “loucura”.
Van Gogh delirante promove o debate de questões prementes sobre a relação entre arte e loucura na obra do artista, constituindo também um evento preparatório para a exposição dedicada a Van Gogh que ocorrerá em 2027 no MASP.
