Liberal Majority? Budget day is hijacked by Conservative floor-crossing… more to come?
On today’s episode of the Candice Malcolm Show, Candice is joined by Toronto Sun columnist Brian Lilley to discuss the budget and the biggest take-aways, namely:“The Liberal government has tabled its budget, projecting a national deficit of $78.3 billion this year, fueled by a massive $38 billion increase in spending to a total of $581 billion. Outside of the pandemic era, Carney’s budget deficit is the largest in Canadian history.
Total debt is projected to reach $1.35 trillion by the end of this year, increasing to $1.59 trillion in 2029-30. Under the Liberal plan, Canada will pay $55.6 billion in debt interest charges next year, rising to $76.1 billion by 2029-30.”
Next, they discuss the story that stole the day, news that Conservative MP Chris d’Entremont has left the party to join the Liberals after he officially resigned from the Conservative caucus and joined the Liberal government.
What does this mean for the government? Will they get a majority afterall? And what does this mean for Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre? Will this affect his leadership review later this winter?
Candice is then joined by conservative commentator Wyatt Claypool to discuss the leadership review, the state of the Conservative Party and what Poilievre needs to do to survive as leader.
Next, they talk about pipelines, BC Premier David Eby’s latest threats to Alberta and Danielle Smith’s position.
