Papa Leone XIV rende omaggio alla Colonna dell’Immacolata Concezione in Piazza di Spagna a Roma. Prima volta per Prevost da Pontefice alla tradizionale preghiera dell’8 dicembre, Festa dell’Immacolata Concezione. «Fiorisca la speranza giubilare a Roma e in ogni angolo della terra, speranza nel mondo nuovo» è l’appello del Papa. «Dopo le porte sante» ha aggiunto, «si aprano ora altre porte di case e oasi di pace in cui rifiorisca la dignità, si educhi alla non violenza, si impari l’arte della riconciliazione». Accanto a lui il sindaco di Roma Roberto Gualtieri. Presenti anche il presidente della Regione Lazio Francesco Rocca e il Prefetto della Capitale Lamberto Giannini. Al termine della cerimonia assieme alle altre cariche religiose, civili e militari presenti hanno salutato il Pontefice con una stretta di mano e uno scambio di parole. Conclusa la parte istituzionale Papa Leone ha scelto di intrattenersi alcuni minuti con i fedeli in attesa da ore davanti alle transenne per poi salire sulla Papamobile scoperta e ripartire tra gli applausi e le grida: «Viva il Papa!».
