Artists from New Zealand, Mexico, and Senegal gathered in New York to reopen the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s renovated Rockefeller Wing.The $70m overhaul at the Met showcases over 1,800 works from the Global South.
Curators collaborated with communities, including descendants of featured artists, to honour cultural contexts.
Highlights include a reimagined Kwomo house ceiling from Papua New Guinea.
The revamp addresses concerns over artefact acquisition with clearer ownership histories.
Visitors praised the spiritual depth and thoughtful presentation of the displays.
