Investigating far-right women's groups | DW Documentary
Right-wing extremist parties are much less popular among women than men. In Germany, one women's organization aims to change that. It offers harmless lifestyle tips alongside xenophobic messaging.Lukreta is a group with close links to Germany's far-right AfD, combining ostensibly harmless lifestyle advice with far-right propaganda. The documentary's investigative team shows how much political influence the organization's members already wield and how well connected they are in Europe.
The women's organization Lukreta may look innocent and traditional on the face of it but scratch a little deeper and you will find hardcore political propaganda alongside its trad wife and homespun look. The documentary shows how far-right narratives are intentionally interwoven with everyday tales.
Baking recipes, braided hair styles and ostensible advocacy for women's rights are linked with right-wing extremist ideological messaging, such as calls for what they call remigration — the mass deportation of migrants deemed to be undesirable by the far right — or with the slogan, we'll "create new Germans ourselves." The investigation shows just how closely this far-right network is connected to national and European politics and their contacts to big names in the international far-right scene.
The reporters talk to one woman who has left the organization and another whose personal story was instrumentalized by right-wing groups. The filmmakers reveal these extremist structures through painstaking undercover investigations in Germany and Portugal, making visible a network of strategic recruitment of young people and Europe-wide connections that extend far beyond social media.
