Chrystia Freeland is facing fresh scrutiny for taking on an advisory role with the Ukrainian government while still serving in Parliament, raising concerns about a conflict of interest.Meanwhile, Conservative MP Scott Anderson revealed he has rejected offers to cross the floor to the Liberals, insisting he would not betray his constituents — shedding light on the Liberals’ ongoing effort to quietly recruit opposition MPs and build a majority through floor-crossing.
Democracy Watch co-founder and ethics watchdog Duff Conacher joined Marc Patrone to explain why Freeland’s dual role poses a significant ethical dilemma and called for clearer rules on MPs holding outside positions. He also suggested that MPs who switch parties should run in a by-election or sit as independents rather than simply crossing the floor.
Plus, Pierre Poilievre criticized Carney’s response to the recent U.S. move to oust Venezuelan president Nicolás Maduro, arguing that it could make Canadian oil less competitive and that Canada needs a stronger stance to ensure its own energy sector remains on solid footing.
