Severe bushfires raged across Victoria in southeastern Australia during an intense heatwave, burning more than 300,000 hectares of land and destroying over 130 buildings. Around 38,000 homes and businesses lost power as firefighters battled multiple major blazes. Prime Minister Anthony Albanese warned of “extreme and dangerous” weather conditions, and large parts of the state were declared disaster zones, with evacuations ordered in many communities.
